Double-Column VMC With Isolated Direct Drive

The DCV-2012B is capable of accommodating oversized, heavy workpieces at an accuracy that is required for aerospace and die mold applications, according to manufacturer YCM. The double-column, bridge VMC offers travels of 78.7" 脳 47" 脳 30" (X,Y,Z). Featuring a 10,000-rpm spindle speed with CT-50 taper, the VMC is powered by a 30-hp, high/low shifting IDD (isolated direct drive) spindle motor for high torque output. The IDD spindle provides low vibration at high cutting speeds, which helps to increase tool life; while the oil-air mist lubrication system prolongs the life of the spindle at extended running, the company says.
The machine is equipped with oversized roller type guideways on the X and Y axes to provide accuracy, and it features hardened and grounded box ways on the Z axis for increased machining rigidity. The Y axis consists of two roller guideways: One is located on the face of the bridge and the other on the top of the bridge. In addition, the headstock is supported by a dual pneumatic counterweight system designed to provide the smooth Z-axis movements required for 3D contouring.
To ensure operating efficiency, the machine is equipped with a 32-tool, swing-arm ATC for quick tool change and a dual, spiral-type chip conveyor system to automatically discharge the metal chips to a centralized area.
