Hyundai Wia’s F650VM vertical machining center is designed to offer high performance at the company’s Value Master price range. Travels measure 51.2" × 26.4" × 25" in the X, Y and Z axes, respectively. Rapid traverse rates are 1,418 ipm (36 m/min.) in the X and Y axes and 1,182 ipm (30 m/min.) in the Z axis. The VMC is said to be well-suited for small- to medium-sized job shops.
A Big Plus spindle system provides dual contact between the spindle face and flange face of the toolholder, increasing rigidity and reducing runout. It features a 25-hp, 10,000-rpm spindle that enables deep cuts at high speeds. The VMC also is equipped with through-spindle coolant too keep chip flow clear of the cutting surface in deep-hole drilling and other applications. A side-mount, swing-arm-type automatic toolchanger accommodates 30 tools and provides tool-change time of 1.5 sec. The toolchanger and magazine are separated by a shutter system that closes during machining to keep chips and fluids away.
Axes are driven by high-precision double-nut ballscrews directly connected to the servodrive motors without gears or belts, eliminating backlash. Linear motion guideways in all three axes enables rapid, high-speed axis movement, reducing noncutting time and decreasing cycle times. The bed, column and saddle are composed of Meehanite cast iron to minimize deformation during heavy-duty cuts and absorb vibration for stable machining. The VMC also is equipped with the a FANUC i-Series CNC control with a 10.4" color LCD display.
