Modular Drill Diameter Range Expands
The Ken TIP modular drill system from Kennametal features various solid-steel bodies (3 × D, 5 × D and 8 × D, among others) and replaceable drill points for precision hole-making in steel. The modular design allows users to keep the drill bodies in a machine or holder and replace drill points as needed. Running at speeds comparable to those of solid carbide drills, the system offers high metal removal rates compared to common modular drills and reduces setup times, the company says.

The company has expanded the KenTIP HP(M) in KC7315 grade and all 3 × D, 5 × D and 8 × D KenTIP body product lines to 1.016" (25.99 mm). Previously, they covered a diameter range from 0.3125" to 0.8260" (8 to 20.99 mm).
According to the company, the system provides excellent centering capability and low thrust for reducing any workpiece flexing. A locking and front-clamping mechanism makes inserts easy to change while providing consistent hole quality from drill to drill, the company says.
The system is suited for general engineering, as well as users in the automotive, energy and other industries seeking improvement in drilling operations.
