Schwanog introduces its three-cutting edge, lay-down tool designed for machining internal grooves. The WEP insertable tooling system, which is individually ground based on part specifications, results in significant unit cost reductions due to substantial time savings during tool changeover, since only the insert is indexed or exchanged and not the entire tool, the company says.
According to Schwanog, the tool can perform grooving and chamfering in one operation. Grooving instead of single-point turning is said to result in part cost reductions. The tool can be used to machine high-alloy materials. Holders are available in all common versions with coolant-through designs. The system’s repeatability is equal to or less than 0.0004".
