The modular Soraluce FS 16000 multitasking machine, distributed by Select Machining Technologies, is designed for large, complex workpieces, providing a longitudinal travel of 629.9", a vertical travel of 142" and cross travel of 159". The machine incorporates two independent workstations, each with a load capacity of 88,180 lbs. One, for milling operations, includes a traveling rotary table measuring 118" × 98" and a 78" W axis; the second, for milling and turning operations, has a traveling rotary turning table measuring 118" in diameter along with a 78" W axis. The traveling-column design enables pendulum machining, by which parts can be unloaded and loaded in one workstation while the spindle remains engaged in the other.
A high-torque, 50-hp (37-kW) universal multitasking head provides indexing at 0.001 × 0.001 degree and spindle speeds as fast as5,000 rpm. The multitasking head integrates with a rotational locking system, which includes a clutch to clamp the spindle at any angle during turning operations. This clamping system is said to prevent bearing damage thanks to an internal retractable support ring.
The FS 16000 also includes a fixed horizontal H62 head, measuring 8" in diameter and 19" in length, along with a TH02 head for internal turning operations, capable of handling boring bars ranging from 4" to 10" in diameter and as long as 100".
