Emag’s VL 5i is capable of turning small- and medium-sized components ranging to 250 mm. The vertical turning center features a pick-up spindle and integrated automation system based on the drag-frame principle for increased productivity. Workpieces are conveyed to the inside of the machine via the revolving automation system. The pick-up spindle loads itself from the conveyor and also deposits the finished workpiece there after machining. According to Emag, the automation system enables reliable loading and unloading, while the spindle minimizes clamping errors.
X- and Z-axis travels measure 650 and 300 mm, respectively, and swing diameter is 270 mm. A 12-station turret accommodates turning or driven tools and offers indexing times as fast as 2.2 sec., the company says. The turret drive combines high speeds and a high power rating within a 360-mm diameter, and provides maximum torque of 45 Nm.
