Manufacturers Discuss How Companies Realize the Potential of Taiwan's Smart Machinery Initiative
The Taiwan Smart Machinery Press Conference at IMTS highlighted several manufacturers, as well as their companies’ approaches to realizing the potential of Taiwan’s Smart Machinery Initiative.

Attendees of the Taiwan Smart Machinery Press Conference at IMTS 2022 were given a firsthand look at Taiwan’s standing in the global machine tools market.
During the conference, five manufacturers spoke about their companies’ approaches to contributing to Taiwan’s global success in the machine tools economy. Carl C.C. Huang, Secretary General of Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builder’s Association and the conference’s first speaker, provided insight into Taiwan’s global rankings in the machine tool industry.
He talked about how Taiwan is fifth in machine tool exports, ninth in imports, ninth in machine tool consumption and seventh in production as of 2021. He also spoke about how the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, supply chain issues, increased production costs and price fluctuations have dampened the growth of the global economy. Huang concluded his presentation by discussing the 2024 Taiwan International Machine Tool Show (TMTS), which he says will feature over 800 exhibitors, 4,000 booths and 86,000 visitors.
Andy Hung from FFG Smart Manufacturing followed with a presentation on FFG Group. Hung’s presentations included information about FFG’s three divisions, its global market and global capital equipment positions and its smart manufacturing architecture.
Kanon Shiu, Product and Service Engineer at Chevalier, spoke after Hung. Shiu talked about smart manufacturing and automation, including Chevalier’s Intelligent Machine Communications System (IMCS), a remote monitoring system that allows users to monitor downtime and keep track of their machines.
Brian Arcari, Honor Seiki Company Limited’s Vice President, presented information about the company’s intelligent vertical lathes. With its extensive aerospace industry presence, Arcari discussed the various companies around the world that use Honor Seiki’s machines and how Honor Seiki tries to evolve to meet their pain points and provide solutions to their problems.
Presentations concluded with Tony Huang, Tongtai’s Assistant Manager in Overseas Sales, talking about the history of Tongtai, the parent company of TTGroup. Huang touched on the main products offered by Tongtai with a focus on machine tools. He reminded attendees they could see Tongtai’s products in Booth 338056 during IMTS.
The conference concluded with a Q&A session, where attendees and media members could ask presenters a few questions to gain more insight into the machine tool industry, as well as what trends the presenters are seeing around the industry.
