Walter USA’s high-performance Prototyp TC115 and TC216 taps are designed to make blind-hole and through-hole threads, respectively. These taps can handle materials ranging from steel to aluminum (ISO material groups P, M, K and N). In addition, the company says that the taps can help to save on inventory costs by reducing the number of taps needed.
The TC115 blind-hole tap has a 45-degree helix angle (for thread depth of 3×D) and a C-form chamfer. The TC216 through-hole tap features a spiral point for forward chip evacuation and a thread depth of 3.5×D. Both taps have M35 high speed steel (HSS-E) bodies and are available with either TiN or vaporized coating. The TiN coating option provides longer tool life and higher cutting speeds, while the vaporized variant is particularly suitable for tough ISO-M materials because it increases process reliability, according to the company.
