The Supermini Type-105 tool system from Horn is designed for demanding boring applications involving diameters ranging from 0.2 and 6 mm (0.008" and 0.236"), with more than 1,000 versions of the carbide insert that fit one toolholder. These inserts, capable of boring materials as hard as 66 HRc, are available for bore diameters ranging from 4 to 5 mm (0.157" to 0.197"), and bore depths ranging to 10, 15 and 20 mm (0.394", 0.591" and 0.787"). The boring inserts are available in left-hand and right-hand designs. The tools’ combination of carbide substrate, heat-resistant coating and cutting geometry is said to deliver a cost-effective alternative to cubic boron nitride cutting materials.
