Iscar’s Picco family of solid carbide inserts are designed to ease ID machining in three specific situations: bottoming blind holes; reaching deeper into high-aspect bores; and reducing mismatch between tool diameters and bore sizes. The better the match between tool and hole geometry, the more efficiently the operation will run, the company says, adding that both diameters and lengths should match as well.
 
To improve bottom flatness in blind holes, the Picco 050.20 insert features a 20-degree frontal clearance angle. The added clearance virtually eliminates chip jamming and minimizes re-cutting of chips, the company says. The inserts are available with 4.0- and 5.0-mm shank diameters for bore diameters measuring 2.0 mm and larger.   
 
The Picco 060 features a long-reach, 40-mm shank for high-aspect bores with diameters measuring at least 6.8 mm. A 6-mm insert has been added to the range to improve size matches in the 5- to 6.8-mm diameter line.
 
Three additional bore diameters measuring 0.8, 2.5 and 3.5 mm have been added to the Picco 050 family, which ranges in diameter from 0.5 to 4.0 mm. The Picco 050 internal turning and chamfering inserts are available with several shank lengths to optimize size match between the tool and hole.
 

Both left- and right-hand styles are available in the versatile, PVD-coated IC900 grade. According to the company, the thin PVD coating protects the cutting edge while preserving the geometry built into the substrate.
