Available from Pathtrace Systems, EdgeCAM version 12 extends the range of five-axis machine tool support to include head/table configurations for both simultaneous and positional work. TheÌýCAM solution for production machining and mold/die applicationsÌýalso provides simulation of the machining process, including full kinematic display of all table/head and tool movements, to verify work setup and eliminate potential collisions.

The software also includes faster toolpath generation for prismatic and 3D geometry. Toolpath smoothing generates true arcs based on the target geometry, which improves accuracy and efficiency while reducing the size of the CNC files, the company says. Other options are designed to reduce cycle times, enhance the software’s toolpath control for holes and minimize air cuts. In addition, the software includes strategies for improving swarf control during deep-hole boring as well as for increasing tool life and programming capability.

Expanded into both turning and mill/turn environments, the software’s Strategy Manager allows users to automate more processes. This can enable design intent to drive the manufacturing environment, the company says. Attributes such as tolerance and surface finish can be used to increase machine productivity. The software has also moved to Structured Query Language (SQL) for handling databases and multi-user environments to enable integration with other factory automation systems such as ERP, tool measurement systems and tool management systems.
