Seco’s M5 positive-lock chipbreaker insert is designed to increase productivity in turning and boring steel, stainless steel, cast iron and superalloys in applications ranging from semi-finishing to tough roughing operations in harsh environments. The insert features a protected chip groove that is well-suited for demanding operations, heavy interruptions and rough material outside skin layers, the company says. An open chip groove with well-adapted cutting angles ensures high feed rates and large cuts to increase machining efficiency and economy. A fine-tuned chip groove provides full control while handling ductile materials.
 
A balanced rake face minimizes the heat transferred to the insert, which optimizes tool life in a variety of workpiece materials and applications, the company says. The insert can be used with the company’s Jetstream Tooling, which delivers coolant close to the cutting edge. The jet of coolant lifts the chip away from the rake face, improving chip control and tool life as well as enabling increased speeds and feeds.
 
The insert is available in a variety of grades, including TP40, TP0500, TP1500, TP2500, TP3500, TM4000, CP500, TK1001 and TK2001, and is suitable a range of components, including transmission parts, cylinder blocks, hubs, flanges and shafts.
