The Goodway GS-4000LM series of heavy-duty turning centers from Yama Seiki accommodates workpieces ranging to 24" in diameter. Four bed sizes are available, offering maximum turning lengths ranging from 29" to 118". Live tooling turret, Y-axis and subspindle models are offered.
The turning center is equipped with a chip conveyor, programmable base tailstock and turning toolholders. Live-tooling and C-axis control capabilities enable multitasking operations such as turning, milling, drilling and tapping on a workpiece. The live-tooling turret is driven by a 10-hp spindle motor and offers 12 stations available for live tooling. Movement of the base and quill are controlled by M codes in auto mode, and thrust pressure is manually adjustable. The Z-axis carriage automatically locks into the tailstock base and moves it to the desired position. The 670-L coolant tank utilizes unused space and eliminates the opening required for under-machine coolant tanks, increasing rigidity. The tank is said to improve air circulation for faster head dispersion and lower coolant temperature.

A History of Precision: The Invention and Evolution of Swiss-Style Machining
In the late 1800s, a new technology — Swiss-type machines — emerged to serve Switzerland’s growing watchmaking industry. Today, Swiss-machined parts are ubiquitous, and there’s a good reason for that: No other machining technology can produce tiny, complex components more efficiently or at higher quality.
