PartMaker version 2011 is available with a specialist functionality designed for programming and simulating bar-fed mills. These mills are turn-mill centers that combine the continuous-production capability of a traditional bar-fed turn-mill center with the platform of a VMC, the company says. The specialist software provides more realistic simulation of the machining processes carried out on bar-fed mills with unique architectures from builders such as Willemin-Macodel, Bumotec, Chiron, Mazak, Star, Tornos-Almac, Stama and others.
A blend of two unique tools enables the software to automate the programming of bar-fed mills. For parts with features requiring two-axis, 2 ½ axis, three-axis and 3+2 machining, the software employs a “Divide and Conquer” programming strategy to automate programming. This technique eases programming of multi-axis operations by enabling the programmer to break the part down into a series of simpler operations, the company says. When a part requires simultaneous five-axis programming, the software can integrate the five-axis machining strategies found in PowerMill, Delcam’s CAM system for automating the programming of complex shapes.
