Building on Dormer Pramet’s high-performance, solid-carbide MP-X 3×D and 5×D drills, the company’s coolant-through 8×D drill is designed to reduce machining time by eliminating the pecking process. Providing fast and efficient chip evacuation, this drill is said to reduce cost per hole and increase overall throughput. The microgram carbide material combines hardness and toughness for high wear resistance and longer tool life. With a multi-layer, titanium-aluminum-nitride (TiAlN-Top) coating, the Dormer MP-X drill delivers improved stability to the cutting edges, protection against wear and oxidation stability.
The Continually Thinned Web (CTW) flute geometry optimizes flute volume and breaks the chips into small, manageable pieces for efficient chip evacuation in deep-hole applications, reducing machine downtime. The design ensures consistent forces throughout the drilling cycle. The combination of the split four-facet point and the CTW flute delivers precise centering and low thrust forces, Dormer says.
