Encoder Interface Features Increased Clock Frequency
Heidenhain’s bidirectional EnDat 2. 2 encoder interface is now available with a clock frequency of 16 MHz for high-response applications with direct drives, particularly those found in the electronics industry. According to the company, the increase from 8 MHz to 16 MHz reduces access time to the position value and shortens cycle times.

Heidenhain’s bidirectional EnDat 2.2 encoder interface is now available with a clock frequency of 16 MHz for high-response applications with direct drives, particularly those found in the electronics industry. According to the company, the increase from 8 MHz to 16 MHz reduces access time to the position value and shortens cycle times.
Incremental encoder signals are made available to the interface as serial position information using interface electronics. These electronics are used to connect incremental encoders with 1-Vpp interface to subsequent electronics compatible with EnDat 2.2. The bidirectional, serial and therefore fully digital interface for high-response drives can provide connection technology savings for the entire system as well as reduced installation space in the machine, the company says.Â
The analog scanning signals are digitized and subdivided at the place of measurement to improve servo motor positioning accuracy and speed stability. Along with self-configuration of encoders and drives in automation systems, information such as temperature can be transmitted to the subsequent electronics without additional wires. Online diagnostics capability is said to simplify maintenance and ensure the availability of machines and facilities.
