Pilz has converted its open-bus system SafetyBus-p to Ethernet technology with the launch of SafetyNet-p, which is designed for safety-related standard-control and motion-control operations. The system’s real-time capability makes it useful for tough applications such as controlling drives on multi-axis systems, the company says. Users can scan the topology of the overall system architecture to identify network structure and obtain status diagnostics on their plant and machinery.
Because the system is designed with a high level of decentralization, controller intelligence is transferred locally to field level. According to the company, this increases the performance and flexibility of the overall system. In addition, an open architecture enables users to implement the system in combination with other industrial Ethernet protocols such as Ethernet/IP or Profinet/IO.
