The Heckert HEC 800 X5 MT five-axis machining center, available from Starrag, provides productivity, process reliability and precise cutting in a single clamping. The “MT” refers to the rapid-rotation table and the “X5” refers to the weighing table. These combine with an NC turning and swivel unit for highly dynamic five-axis machining and turning. According to the company, the machining center performs complete, efficient machining of complex workpieces, reducing the number of clamping positions required and eliminating additional machining operations on other machines to cut unit production times and stoppages, as well as improve production accuracy.

Rapid feed rates range to 60 m/min. in the X, Y and Z axes. Acceleration is 7 m/sec.². On the rotational axis, the NC rotary table provides rapid rotation of 60 rpm and can reach 500 rpm for turning. Additionally, the machine provides long-term workpiece accuracies to 7 microns, even when changing between rough machining and finishing. For high-performance control during complex machine applications with multiple axes, the CNC FANUC 3i controller further increases machine accuracy and reliability. A Siemens Sinumerik 840D sl controller is also available. In case of power failure, the machine’s “Safe Shutdown” option brings the axes to a controlled stop and then clamps them. Hydraulic clamping of the rotational axes and a mechanical pallet clamping system provide additional security.
