Chevalier Machinery offers its FBB series 110 and 130 horizontal boring and milling machines equipped with a rotary table. The table offers full C-axis contouring with 0.001-degree minimum intervals and is driven by an AC servomotor with a worm shaft and gear. A hydraulic break disk plus locking pin every 90 degrees promotes stability.
The machines’ 63" × 55.1" table accommodates loads ranging to 22,000 lbs. X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measure 78.7" × 78.7" × 59". The W-axis travel measures 19. 7" on the FBB 110 model and 27.5" on the FBB-130 model. Both models are equipped with a 35-hp, 50-taper cartridge-type spindle with ZF gearbox capable of producing as much as 1,220 foot-pounds of torque at 600 rpm for cutting tough materials. The spindle can be extended with the W axis for deep-hole boring. A spiral-type spindle cooling system provides constant, all-around lubrication to prevent thermal deformation and prolong the life of the spindle, bearings and gears.
The rigid design of the main machine body and column ensure structural stability, the company says. Its one-piece Meehanite cast iron machine base includes four guideways on the Z axis for full table support with no overhang issues and is coated with anti-friction material to promote consistent accuracy and smooth movement. C3-grade ballscrews on all axes are said to enable high-precision positioning.
The machine is equipped with a lift-up chip conveyor and two internal chip augers. The FANUC 0i-MD control includes a front memory card slot and Ethernet connection. An optional magazine-type automatic toolchanger accepts tools weighing as much as 55 lbs, while an optional chain-type 40-, 60- or 80-tool magazine is also available.
