Okuma America Corporation has launched the Okuma MA-600HIII, an addition to its MA-600H family that offers several new features.
It has a table size of 630 mm x 630 mm (24.80 in x 24.80 in) and a max loadable size of 1,050 mm x 1,200 mm (41.34 in x 47.24 in). The standard spindle speed is 10,000 min⁻¹ with 6,000, 12,000, 15,000 and 20,000 options also available. It weighs 25,000 kg (55,000 lb) with a rapid traverse of X: 60 m/min (2,362 ipm), Y: 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) and Z: 60 m/min (2,362 ipm). The MA-600HIII’s new 10K RPM standard spindle is suitable for applications ranging from heavy-duty to high-feed machining.
This machine has a larger work envelope than its predecessor, with added X-axis travel capabilities. Additionally, the MA-600HIII can perform automatic tool change operations in less than four seconds, according to the company. Enhancements have also been made to Okuma’s thermal management technology, including decreased temperature deviation of the machine to an improved 7 μ dimensional change per 24-hour period.
The machining center also features an enhanced coolant management system, ball screw cooling for the X, Y and Z axes, an upgraded workspace design to prevent chip accumulation and improved chip evacuation functionality. These features are meant to maximize uptime and allow for long periods of continuous machine operation. The sludgeless tank technology activates filtering and liquid flow patterns of the chip/coolant mixture to mitigate settling of the mixture in the bottom of the receiving tank which is designed to reduce the need for tank cleaning.
The workspace area can equip up to seven ports for part loading/unloading or up to eight workholding clamp ports, which is designed to reduce the need for complicated circuit arrangements for hydraulic applications. Up to 16 ports are available in the machine's setup station, expanding part capacity and the possibilities for robotic applications.
