Horn’s D1122 solid carbide drilling system is designed for productive and economical drilling in steel and cast materials. The straight cutting edge is said to be highly stable while reducing the formation of built-up edges. The corner chamfers contribute to wear protection of the cutting edge and to a longer tool life. The specialized HiPIMS coating offers a high level of wear protection for the tool, and the open, precision-ground flutes provide reliable chip removal.
The customized cutting-edge geometry demonstrates a high level of process reliability, according to the company. Horn offers the drills with point angles of 135 and 140 degrees. Two land margins provide stability and reduced friction. The 135-degree type is available in an 8 × D version with four land margins. This offers optimum drilling quality and high positioning accuracy. The 140-degree drill is available in short and long versions (3 × D and 5 × D) in accordance with DIN 6537. The optimized point is said to enable good chip formation and coolant distribution for both angles. All types are equipped with internal coolant supply. Clearly assigned material groups enable the user to select tools easily.
