With a cutting-edge width of 2 mm (0.078"), the two inserts in Seco’s MDT 2-mm line are designed for grooving, parting and profiling of small- and micro-sized parts.
Designed primarily for Swiss machining applications, the compact MDT19 insert provides insert indexing accessibility in restricted space. With a longer reach, larger toolholders and broader product range, the MDT28 is designed for general machining applications. It enables parting off of bars ranging to 2" diameter.
The inserts incorporate the company’s Secoloc insert clamping system, designed to maximize stability and accuracy. A combination of V-top clamping and serrated contact surfaces between the insert and toolholder ensure high process security, the company says.
The inserts are available in multiple geometries, with the FT geometry providing strong performance for grooving and parting off, and the FTR6 and FTL6 geometries reducing burring and center pip when parting off in more-demanding applications, the company says. The round MP geometry is suitable for profiling.
