The Hermle C 400 offers high-precision, five-axis machining in a compact package. The machining center features a mineral-cast base, a modified gantry design with all linear axis drives above and outside the working area, and a rotating table mounted on a rigid trunnion mechanism. The two-sided trunnion design enables a table load capacity ranging to 2,000 kg.
The working area measures 850 × 700 × 500 mm in the X, Y and Z axes, respectively. The machine’s 15,000-/18,000-rpm main spindle is powered by a 20-kW drive delivering as much as 180 Nm of torque. The slim spindle housing design enables machining of deeper cavities with shorter tools, the company says. Six displacement sleeves provide collision protection, and the two-piece spindle design enables fast service access. The pick-up toolchanger features 38 positions (optional 87 positions) and a chip-to-chip time of approximately 6 sec. The machine is controlled with the Heidenhain iTNC530.
Swiveling A-axis and rotary C-axis kinematics enable effective and precise machining strategies, the company says. The NC-controlled rotary table provides a clamping surface of 650 × 540 mm in diameter and a swivel range of +92 degrees/-139 degrees. An optional rigid clamping table provides a surface of 1,070 × 700 mm with a maximum load of 2,000 kg.
