Walter USA has expanded its Titex X-treme DM micro-drilling line with tools in the 16×D and 30×D drilling depth ranges. Additionally, tools ranging from 2 to 2.95 mm in diameter are available for all depths in the range. The micro-drills feature internal cooling and are said to resist pecking for safer operation. An optimized point geometry with cutting edge preparation and a precisely dimensioned flute geometry are said to improve chip formation and promote process reliability. The polished surface on the flutes also supports chip evacuation.
The tools are designed for drilling holes smaller than 3 mm in diameter for the automotive, aerospace, die and mold, and general metalworking industries. According to Walter, applications include drilled holes for lubrication, cooling and venting, and nozzle bores. The micro-drills can be used with the P, K, M, N and ISO material groups.
