Iscar says its new milling cutters increase productivity in heavy roughing applications on limited-feed machines. They also enable moderate ramping and side plunging. The cutters are part of the Helido line of milling tools, which feature helical cutting edges on the inserts for a gentler cutting action, even at high removal rates, the company says.
The company’s Moderate Feed (MF) Helido cutters can cut at depths ranging to 0.138", which is 75 percent deeper than Fast Feed (FF) Helido mills. Evan at slower feeds, the company says the MF cutters can remove stock faster than the FF line with twice the insert life.
The MF cutter design parallels the FF line. The cutter body features a strong, dovetailed insert clamping for secure, unattended milling. Each double-sided trigon insert provides six cutting edges to reduce tooling costs. The cutting edge features a helical curve to cleave off the metal like scissors cutting paper. According to the company, the cutter can accomplish this without scraping or slamming into the workpiece. This minimizes cutting forces and protects the tool and workpiece.
Five sizes are available in diameters ranging from 2.00" to 5.00". The line offers two insert configurations, type HP for general-purpose service and type T for stainless steel and super alloys.
