Norton Rapid Prep XHD Coarse and Medium flap discs from Saint-Gobain Abrasives are designed to remove weld lines, splatter, discoloration and blend surfaces in a single step. XHD Coarse is good for surface blending on steels, while XHD Medium works well on softer metals. The discs combine a conformable fiber matrix and ceramic grain, resulting in better cut control and surface blending than traditional coated flap and fiber discs, the company says. The blended fiber web dissipates workpiece debris, increasing product life and shape integrity. Norton’s Clean Bond resin system is designed to prevent smearing and moderate the disc’s rate of wear.
The Rapid Prep XHD discs come in 12 sizes offered in three non-woven types: quick-change discs from 2" to 4" with TR attachment; hook and loop discs in 7/8"-hole and no-hole options ranging from 4 ½" to 7" in diameter; and speed-change discs ranging from 4 ½" × 5/8"-11 Fastener to 7" × 7/8" Fastener.
