WorkNC G3 automatically generates optimized roughing and finishing tool paths for two- through five-axis machining applications. The new NCSpeed module, developed by Formtec and fully integrated into WorkNC, can produce additional cycle time reductions.

NCSpeed uses a computer-generated stock model that is updated dynamically and continuously. This more advanced method allows the module to calculate the load and thus forces generated on the cutting tool. The module will then increase the feed rates during conditions of a lighter cutting load. Conversely, for cutter safety, NCSpeed can lower feed rates where appropriate, such as during areas of high cutter loads.

By keeping tool loads as constant as possible, the module allows engineers to achieve the best possible cutting conditions across the whole job, having a positive impact on accuracy and the quality of the surface finish, the company says. By avoiding excessive load conditions and by keeping the volume of the material consistent, cutter deflection will be minimized, tool life will be increased, excessive vibration and chatter will be eliminated and cutter breakage will be avoided.

The software also checks for tool engagement with the material, maximizing movements at rapid feed where the cutter is out of the material. It also shortens the overall length of rapid tool paths where it is safe to do so.
