Renishaw’s RMI-Q radio transmission interface enables as many as four separate tool-setting or spindle probes with radio transmission to be operated on the same machine. It can be integrated on a range of machining centers and CNC milling machines to provide cable-free, automated, on-machine tool setting; tool breakage detection; part setup; and part verification. With a 15-m transmission range, the system is well-suited for large machines and those with obscured line-of-sight between probe and receiver.
The system uses the 2.4-GHz frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) radio transmission for compliance with radio regulations and uninterrupted operation. Multiple probing configurations are possible, including Renishaw’s RTS tool setter, RMP60 inspection probe or other compatible spindle-mounted touch probes with radio transmission. The system activates either the spindle-mounted touch probe or table-mounted tool setting probe and gives visual indication of the activated device.
