Heidenhain has redesigned the mechanics and electronics of its LC series linear encoders and added four products with new interfacesÌýto the line. The LC 183 and 483Ìýfeature anÌýEnDat interface, while the LC 193 and LC 493Ìýfeature a Fanuc interface. The company says these new encoders make purely serial axis-control possible. The resolution of the absolute position value is 5 nm for encoders with an accuracy grade of ±3 micrometers and 10 nm for encoders with an accuracy grade of ±5 micrometers.

Regardless of the measuring length, the data word length is 32 bits. With a clock frequency of 8 MHz, the formation of the position value and transfer takes about 20 microseconds. Both outputs incorporate a single-field scanning technique, which is designed to improve signal quality, traversing speed and contamination resistance.

Along with new interfaces, the company also has made mounting-method changes designed to simplify installation. Encoders of the 400 series can use a universal mounting spar, which allows for a cable outlet to the left or right. Available accessories include clamps mounted at fixed intervals along the measuring length to provide additional support.
