The TER ThermoGrip shrink-fit collets from Bilz feature solid bodies that are not deformed or compressed when clamping, the company says. The length of the cutting tool in the collet can be precisely adjusted during shrink-fitting. The shrink-fit process occurs outside of the machine, enabling part production to continue.
The collets achieve tool runout of less than 3 microns while providing rigid holding. According to Bilz, the shrink-fit collets improve cutting tool performance and life in machining tough materials like titanium. They are compatible with existing collet chucks and spindles, and offer low-wear monoblock properties. The toolholding system can be used for all ER live tools and ER straight-shank holders in Swiss-type machines. ER16, ER20, ER25 and ER32 collet sizes with inch and metric bore sizes are available.
