Kennametal offers a shrink-fit toolholding system for machining centers and multi-tasking machines. The program is split in two lines: general purpose (GP) and high torque (HT). The GP line is designed for carbide, HSS and steel shanks with clamping torques suitable for most general engineering, die and mold, automotive and other machining tasks. The HT line is suited for heavy roughing operations that require a higher clamping torque, or for difficult-to-cut materials such as those found in the aerospace industry. The HT line has a 30 to 50 percent higher clamping torque than the GP line, resulting in improved chip removal, faster performance and increased productivity, the company says.
All HSK shrink-fit toolholders are balanced to G2.5 at 25,000 rpm. In addition, the shrink-fit program accommodates steep taper, BT, CV and DV back-ends. According to the company, other features and benefits include a rigid and accurate connection to the toolholder; a shrinking and cooling process that lasts less than 30 seconds; concentricity of 3µm; a slim profile for milling deep cavities; a through-hole for coolant; and more.
