Phillips Precision has added more workholding versatility to its modular Inspection Arsenal system with the Skinny-Vise. The system uses a thumb screw to hold small, thin and oddly shaped parts for precise repeatability in CMM and vision inspection systems.
According to Victor Rinaldi, product engineer, the Skinny-Vise exposes more of the part and keeps the clamp as non-intrusive as possible. “You can easily see past the fixture on vision systems, and CMM probes can easily access nearly 100% of the surface of a part,” he adds.
The static jaw is adjustable to 1.25", while the locking jaw is easily engaged with a quick, gentile twist, the company says, speeding up part swaps and repeat inspection of very thin, small parts. Soft aluminum jaws can be customized to hold parts of various shapes, including pins and spheres; and the vise base can be mounted in any direction.
The modular inspection system is described as a lean solution to inspection bottlenecks, enabling users to build fixtures once and then add them swap them out.
