Surfware demonstrates three-axis high speed machining using its TrueMill technology by machining titanium 6AL4V. The demonstration is performed at 115 ipm with a 1/2" diameter end mill at 1" depth of cut to remove material at the rate of 4 cubic inches per minute. It is also machining aluminum 6061 and 45-HRc tool steel at even greater speeds and depths, the company says. TrueMill accomplishes this by managing the cutting tool’s engagement with the material, which also is said to end chatter and extend tool life. According to the company, the system can turns even the oldest CNC equipment into a high speed machining center.
The company’s latest version of Surfcam Velocity 4 SP1 gives even more control over four- and five-axis swarf cutting, axial cutting, retract motions and imported geometry. The company also offers Surfcam Velocity 5 with the addition of a button and menu to define the machine tool’s basic kinematics, such as spindle speed, number of tools, X-, Y- and Z-axis limits and more. Among other new features is a transparent workplane representation of the active view.
