For more efficient CNC machining, Open Mind Technologies offers version 9.6 of its hyperMill CAM solution. HyperMill is integrated with millTurn milling and turning module to extend the range of machining strategies so that turning strategies are also available for complete machining on mill-turn machines. Existing strategies include 2D, 3D, HSC and five-axis strategies. A range of new functions has also been added, such as active collision avoidance during roughing, complete finishing, automatic pocket-feature recognition and workspace monitoring.
Advantages of the new module include accurate single-setup machining and reduced setup times, the company says. The mill-turn module enables users to switch between turning and milling strategies during programming, and they can also generate NC programs. Automatic stock tracking and stock management, a tool database and collision control are available for all turning and milling strategies. Also, a mill-turn postprocessor ensures a complete NC file output.
The complete finish milling strategy is suited for machining flat and steep areas in a single operation by specifying a slope angle at the point where the machine passes from flat to steep areas. By entering a clearance area for the tool, the smoothest approach and retract strategy is automatically calculated for the approach and retract points.
