Valenite’s VP9605 is designed for difficult-to-machine materials and for aerospace industry applications such as semi-finishing and finishing. According to the company, the turning grade offers production cost savings and increased tool life. The grade is said to work well in demanding environments common to corrosive applications, continuous-duty cycles, elevated temperatures, elevated pressures and high precision applications. In addition to aerospace, the grade is suited for the automotive, die and mold, oil/gas, power generation, off-highway, medical and marine industries.
The turning grade was developed to offer versatility on difficult-to-machine workpiece materials including hardened steels, heat-resistant super alloys, titanium as well as aluminum and nonferrous materials. The turning grade is also said to work well in die and mold, turning, boring finishing and light roughing applications. It can be used as an alternative to CBN, especially for hard materials machining.
The grade utilizes the company’s MicroForm technology, a special carbide-grade technology of powder preparation and sintering, providing the capability to direct-press inserts with a uniform micro-grain structure.
