Walter has launched its 88-degree approach angle Xtra-tec XT M5012 face milling cutter. The mill, available in diameters between 32 and 100 mm, is part of Walter's Xtra-tec XT milling tool lineup. Walter recommends the M5012 for steel, cast iron, stainless steels, and non-ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. The M5012 is used in face milling, roughing and rough finishing operations with wiper inserts.
In fact, Walter says the Xtra-tec XT M5012 can help shops avoid additional finishing operations. The mill is also compatible with less powerful machines due to its positive soft cutting action. It permits maximum feeds, tool life and productivity thanks to its small indexable inserts with a high number of teeth and a large depth of cut. These tough double-sided, universal, indexable inserts ship in both Walter Tiger-tec Silver or Tiger-tec Gold to permit maximum feeds and tool life while contributing to a high level of stability that can help with small machining allowances and variable conditions. The angled accessible clamping screw improves handling and helps prevent typical assembly mistakes.
The new Xtra-tec XT M5012 is highly cost-effective thanks to inserts being offered in a fully ground configuration for maximum precision, or fully sintered configuration for maximum cost-efficiency. Walter offers the bodies in either ScrewFit or shell mount, with two pitches for different applications.
