Emag’s ELC 250 Duo laser welding machine is designed to optimize the production of gearbox components using its dual machining areas. The twin-spindle design incorporates Emag’s pick-up, self-loading concept which enables loading and unloading during the cycle, reducing idle times. The pick-up spindles also enable the use of fixed lenses, since the workpiece moves rather than the tool. The fact that the lenses are fixed ensures that the laser is always directed into the inside of the machine promoting user safety. In addition, fixed lenses ensure process reliability because the laser technology need only be set up once, the company says.
The machine’s optical system accommodates large series production with optimized beam control and targeted extraction to protect the lenses from contamination during the welding process. The machine can be equipped with a range of laser technology to suit component requirements and the customer’s specifications. Although welding takes place on two stations, only one laser source is required. A beam deflector is used to switch the laser between the focusing lenses at the two welding stations, improving usage and increasing productivity.
