At Methods Machine Tool's Metal Storm, the company's main showroom was crowded with machines and visitors on its opening day, June 11, 2014.
The Kiwa KMH 300 series of HMCs feature an unusually small footprint for a 300-mm pallet machine. It is described is the ideal starter HMC that enables the shop to transition from vertical machining to horizontal in an affordable path that is easy for operators to follow.
The Yasda H40i PC24 five-axis high-precision machining center is known for exceptional volumetric (3D) accuracy in high-end applications that require jig-borer (or better) capability. The machine has a 20,000 rpm spindle for 40-taper tools and a 400-mm pallet.
Super precise applications such as thus turbine blade ring are typical of the work for which the Yasda H40i is ideal. XYZ positioning accuracy for this model is stated as ±0.002 mm.
The Feeler HV-1300 was demonstrating a 3D contouring application to emphasize the machine's suitability for demanding die/mold work in the vertical mode.
On the Feeler HV-1300, very smooth contoured surfaces are possible with high-speed tool paths programmed with CAMplete software from CAMtool.
The Sigma Tandem 6A has an interesting configuration that gives it flexibility of special value to job shops in oilfield and aerospace. It is equipped with a tilting head (B axis) and two tables, each with a built-in rotary axis for full five-axis capability. The tables can be separated and isolated to act as a pallet shuttle or combined for integrated long-bed operation that accommodates oversized and heavy workpieces.
Shown here is the new volumetric (four axis) taper compensation feature that is unique to FANUC wire EDM technology. The concept is to adjust the position of the top and bottom wire guides by a precalculated value so that the wire moves slightly away from the workpiece surface where the taper settings would otherwise create an overburn situation caused by the slower relative movement of the wire. This compensation reduces wire breakage while maintaining taper cut accuracy to ±0.0008 inch.
