ANCA’s Tool of the Year Award Open for Submissions

Submissions for ANCA’s Tool of the Year Award are being accepted now through Aug. 15. This year’s winners will be announced live at EMO Milano, which takes place Oct. 4-9, 2021, at Fiera Milano exhibition facility in Rho, Italy, near Milan. Last year, there were almost 30 entries from across the world, which were seen by over 80,000 fans, receiving over 200,000 social media engagements.

The contest enters its fourth year. Here are the two competition categories: 

• The main prize goes to #MadeOnANCA tools and entrants will be judged on the form and performance of their cutting tool.
• The second category, for virtual tools, is “Most Innovative Tool Design — 2021.” Entrants are encouraged to be creative and use ANCA tool design software to push ideas to their limits.

The winner of the #MadeOnANCA prize will receive $10,000 worth of ANCA innovations for parts, accessories or software. The winner of the most innovative virtual tool will receive the full CIM software package. Read more about the event here.

America Makes Announces the Ohio Secondary Education AM Training Network

continues to strive toward building an additive manufacturing (AM) pipeline across Ohio, announcing the Ohio Secondary Education Additive Manufacturing Training Network.

According to the 2020 Ohio Manufacturing Report by the Ohio Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) and Magnet, 57 percent of Ohio’s manufacturers indicated that the skilled worker shortage is the number one challenge impeding business growth. 

With collaboration and support from the Ohio Development Services Agency (OSDA), the training network will provide formal education and training for AM technologies to high school students and educators to help ensure future generations of Ohio workers are equipped to work in advanced manufacturing roles. Up! Network Expands Service to Mexico, Canada

Up! Network will now be available in all of North America, as it announced it is expanding service to include Mexico and Canada.

“We were seeing an increase in the number of users requesting service options for Mexico and Canada,” said Dave Rhodes, general manager for Up!.

The company said Mexico’s prominence in industrial manufacturing and requests from machinists in Mexico and Canada made the expansion a natural development. Read the full story here.

DMG MORI Opens Regional Headquarters in Charlotte

DMG MORI USA celebrated the opening of a new regional headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, giving customers a three-day experience that featured live test cuts on four machines. Each machine was connected with the DMG MORI Messenger, NETservice and Celos PC: the NLX 2500 SY universal turning center, NTX 2500 turn and mill center, DMU 65 FD monoBLOCK milling and turning machine and CMX 50 U five-axis machining center. 

The new headquarters offers training courses on CNC Technology, the digitization of machine tool manufacturing and use of DMG MORI technology cycles. Read the full story here.
