Perceptron Inc. (Plymouth, Michigan), a provider of 3D automated metrology solutions and coordinate measuring machines, has announced that a leading North American automotive manufacturer has selected Perceptron for its upcoming large vehicle program. The project involves four manufacturing plants, with each plant receiving over fifteen measurement stations. The stations will be positioned throughout the manufacturing process to measure the critical vehicle subassemblies such as doors, hoods, underbodies, side frames as well as the completed bodies.
“We have worked closely with the customer to develop an accurate solution for them to collect quality information on the first part through the line,” says Rick Van Valkenburg, director of sales for Perceptron. “We are exceptionally pleased by their decision to make Perceptron an integral part of their quality control strategy.”
Perceptron’s dimensional gaging solutions are designed to provide a real-time view of the customer’s production quality, allowing them to make rapid adjustments and instantaneously evaluate the results. The integrated reporting package enables immediate insight into the manufacturing process, turning massive amounts of data into actionable information, the company says.
The gaging stations are currently in the design phase, with plant installations planned to start January 2017.
