The 2015 R2 version of Delcam’s PowerMill programming software for five-axis and high-speed machining enables a project to be completely verified for machine tool issues such as collisions without requiring verification of each individual toolpath. Following comprehensive verification, the software generates a detailed list of any problems to be fixed on a case-by-case basis. In addition, automatic collision checking of area-clearance tool paths now takes into account any remaining stock on a model, both when checking the cutter and the toolholder. Toolholder collision checking for area clearance takes place during toolpath calculation, enabling the user to ensure that toolpaths are free of collisions. Similarly, the system now enables the user to simulate machine tool movements as tool changes are executed and generates a list of problems for correction.

Two enhancements have been made to PowerMill software’s drilling options within the 2015 R2 release. First, drilling applications can reference a stock model rather than the block, with tool paths created from the point when the tool touches the stock, reducing air cutting. Second, drills larger than the milling tool can be used when drilling to create an entry point for area clearance. Alternatively, a larger entry hole can be created by helical ramping of the tool. In addition, user customization operations now include the ability to create keyboard shortcuts for menu items, toolbar items, custom commands or macros, and expression fields can be added to custom toolbars.
