The Bridgeport V480 and V710 vertical machining centers from Hardinge are suitable for applications ranging from job shop work to high-production manufacturing with fast rapid traverse rates, high axis and spindle acceleration/deceleration, and a powerful control. These VMCs provide a 40-taper, 10,000-rpm, 10-hp spindle; 33 foot-pounds of spindle torque; a 20-station swing-arm automatic toolchanger; and a manual pulse generator (MPG). Designed for flexibility and high throughput, the V480/V710 platform features a compact footprint and rugged construction.

Axis travels on the V480 measure 18.9" × 15.75" × 16.93" (480 × 400 × 430 mm). Axis travels on the V710 measure 27.87" × 15.75" × 16.93" (708 × 400 × 430 mm). The machine provides rapid traverse rates of 1,417 ipm on all three axes and acceleration rates of 6, 4.6 and 3.75 m/sec.² in the X, Y and Z axes, respectively.

Features include a 10.4" color LCD monitor, a circular flushing ring and a coolant chip flush system. The machines are offered with a Mitsubishi M70V type A control. Navi-Mill and embedded Ethernet are also standard. Some available options include 12,000- and 15,000-rpm spindles, CTS-Deublin rotary union, 280-psi through-spindle coolant, air blast, chip conveyors, spindle chiller and fourth axis pre-wiring.
