The Horn HP65-grade S224 indexable insert with through-tool coolant features the company’s 3V geometry and a 3-mm (0.118") grooving width. The funnel-shaped nozzle creates a coolant jet which acts directly on the cutting zone to ensure optimum cutting conditions, the company says. The coolant jet supports chip forming and reduces the chances of chip build-up. It also prevents the formation of built-up edges and fractures on the cutting edge. According to Horn, the system enables higher cutting parameters which in turn enable the tool to be used more cost effectively. The insert’s wear-resistant AlTiN coating is designed for grooving and parting off stainless steels.
The square shank holder with internal cooling is available with right- and left-hand designs in dimensions of 16 × 16 mm (0.630" × 0.630"), 20 × 20 mm (0.787" × 0.787") and 25 × 25 mm (0.984" × 0.984"). Coolant is transferred via a supply port in the bottom of the square shank. The holders are compatible with the relevant VDI supports and enable inserts to be replaced easily with high accuracy and repeatability, the company says.
