The 2013 release of Delcam’s PowerInspect software offers dual-device inspection options that enable measurement with two portable devices at the same time. This capability reduces inspection times by measuring a complete object in a single setup. The program can also combine measurements from two different types of devices. For example, a laser tracker may be used to check the long-range accuracy of a large component while a portable arm measures specific features in a confined space. The software enables the use of virtually all types of inspection devices combined with a range of inspection routines for taking simple measurements, inspecting geometric features and analyzing 3D surfaces.

Simultaneous measurement is an extension of the functionality for dual-column CMMs that was included in the 2012 R2 release of the software. The dual-column module for CMMs has also been updated, making it easier to switch between single- and dual-column operation, the company says.

The update includes a new function that modifies the probing parameters of subsequent probed features so that settings can be applied to any group of measurements or to the complete inspection sequence. Additional enhancements include more flexible raster-based inspection with the ability to edit the measurement volume graphically. Labels can be automatically generated, and selected points are highlighted for scan data alignment, simplifying the laser scanning of a series of parts. New features for clay modeling simplify switching between curves and selecting, editing and marking points within them.
