Five-Axis Turn/Mill Center
GBI Cincinnati’s five-axis, traveling-column machining center, the matec-30 HV/K, has torque drives in the swiveling axes (swivel head and rotary table) and is suited for precise mold work and mixed-volume, short run operations. With X-, Y- and Z-axis travels of 1,300, 600 and 800 mm, respectively, the center combines high-performance turning/milling and large machining capacity within a compact, 4,900- × 4,355- × 3,250-mm footprint. The 1,515- × 635-mm table with five T slots can handle a maximum table load of 1,000 kg.

Rapid traverse rates of 30 m/min. (48/100 m/min. optional) accelerate machine cycle times and reduce non-cut time, increasing overall throughput, the company says. Also increasing cycle time is an automatic tool-change magazine offering a 3.5 sec. (vertical) or 6.5 sec. (horizontal) tool-to-tool index time. The tool changer holds 36 tools (as many as 128 optional) with a maximum tool weight between 3 to 10 kg. Maximum tool diameter is 70 to 130 mm and length is 360 mm.
The machining center includes versatile, high speed linear guideways in all axes. A high-torque 30-kW AC spindle motor with direct drive permits full horsepower at low spindle speeds. The standard 40-taper spindle delivers 12,000 rpm (42,000 rpm optional) with through-spindle coolant at 20 bar (70 bar optional), which helps keep the spindle cool. To ensure rigidity, the machine base is manufactured from high-quality Mehanite cast iron.
The multifunctional machining area combines a fixed machine table with an integrated rotary table. A 630-mm-diameter CNC torque rotary table permits machining on five sides with a speed range of 1,800 rpm. The swing circle of the CNC torque rotary table has a diameter of 1,000 mm. The CNC torque swivel head has a range of ±105 degrees for horizontal and vertical machining.
