Formlabs’ Form3 and Form3L 3D printers use low-force stereolithography (LFS) to improve print quality and printer reliability. The LFS process uses a flexible resin tank to reduce peel forces, improving surface finish and detail. The Light Processing Unit (LPU), or optics engine, has mirrors that direct the laser perpendicular to the print plane, ensuring a uniform laser spot to deliver accurate and repeatable parts. The LFS print process is also intended to be scaleable. The Form 3L prints simultaneously with two LPUs to bring large-format 3D printing in house with five times the build volume and two times the laser power of the Form 3.
The 3D printers are said to provide pinpoint precision, less postprocessing for smoother surface finish, nonstop printing to free up time for the design process, and constant uptime that includes replaceable, modular components.
