Designed for medical and industrial applications, Glebar's CAM 2 grinder is flexibile enough to micro-machine specialty wires directly from CAD drawings.Ìý

The machine’s six-axis OD grinding system includes a 12" grinding wheel for increased cutting speed. Data from CAD drawings is fed directly into servomotors that control the grinding of wires with diameters as fine as 0.0005". On length features, the machine holds a tolerance of 0.001", and diameter accuracy is 0.0001". Surface finish is better than 9 Ra, and positioning accuracy is within 5 microns on each axis. In addition, workpieces can be rotated at any speed from 0 to 5,000 rpm, allowing the operator to grind diameters, flats or facets.

Other features include a user-definable library of shapes, unlimited profile length and a built-in dressing system that maintains dimensions on the grinding wheel without templates. Grinding wheels with widths ranging from 0.010" to 1.5" are available in a variety of materials, including cubic boron nitride, silicon carbide, super-abrasives and aluminum oxide. Wires can be fed automatically for production runs or wire-by-wire for laboratory prototyping. In addition, the company’s System 2000 operating system provides multi-level access control, operator trace and interfacing to external feeding and dressing systems.
