During high performance grinding processes, heat builds up in the grinding area. Increasing wear forces weaken the grain and bond structure. And due to the increased stock removal volume, the boundary layer between both these components is heavily eroded.
The CSS Ultra, a grinding wheel from Tyrolit, is designed to solve this problem. Its restructured micro architecture is said to improve grinding performance. According to manufacturer tests, the product combines maximum profile retention with minimum wear. This enables the abrasive grain to withstand much greater loads without breaking away prematurely. When tested on OD cylindrical, OD plunge, OD inner raceway and OD spherical roller-path grinding applications, the product improved abrasive use per piece, increased the number of parts per dress and decreased cycle time per part, the company says.
CSS Ultra is designed to grind with reduced cutting forces and thus generate improved geometry. An additional benefit is cooler grinding, which reduces the chance for burn.
