Designed to reduce cycle times in a variety of operations, NSK America’s HES series of machine spindles includes two models: the HES510, programmable from 5,000 to 50,000 rpm, and the HES810, programmable from 20,000 to 80,000 rpm. In one example in which an HES spindle was used to semi-finish a 64-cavity mold, cycle time was reduced from 16 hours at 6,000 rpm to less than 2.5 hours at more than 40,000 rpm, the company says. In another, cycle time for machining graphite for a product logo electrode was reduced from more than five hours at 5,000 rpm to 22 minutes at more than 42,000 rpm.
