Rohm’s MZMF hybrid chuck is a combination of a three-jaw manual chuck and a round, magnetic support plate. By combining the two technologies, workpieces of various sizes can be evenly and securely clamped and machined from three sides, the company says. Clamping, before turning or grinding operations, is carried out in seconds, minimizing machine downtime.
In particular, the precise machining of rings in a single, quickly realizable clamping operation is possible with the chuck. Workpieces of different sizes and contours can be securely extended and clamped in seconds. The three-jaw centering chuck is operated with a single drive and is suitable for external and internal clamping.
A user can align the workpiece in the hand-operated centering chuck and then clamp it with the electric permanent magnet. The chuck is supplied with power via a plug connection for magnetizing and demagnetizing. During machining, the plug is removed. The permanent radial pole magnets are said to evenly and securely clamp the workpiece with a holding force ranging to 150 N/cm. The holding forces can be individually adjusted in 16 steps via the control unit. Clamping occurs completely across the whole surface, free of vibrations and deformations. The hybrid chuck has a diameter of 1,250 mm and is platform-independent.
